Community Projects

We love to get involved, working with the community on projects with benefits. Art and being creative has so many positive effects on people of all ages and here you can find some of the projects we have worked on recently. If you have something you would like us to help with then get in touch

Julia’s House Mermaid Tail

In December 2024 we helped Merley First School decorate their mermaid tail for Julia’s House. The tail became part of the ‘Tail Trail’ which saw mermaid tails designed and decorated by artists and community organisations placed throughout Bournemouth and Poole for the public to find. The Merley First School mermaid was placed at the BH Live centre at Pelhams. All the students at the school took part in the decorating. Using the theme of ‘Seasons’ we created a tree with leaves and decorations made up with the children’s finger prints - pink blossom, white snow drops and brown autumn leaves. Once the tail was finished, we had a mini exhibition of all the children’s design ideas and the final tail in the school hall for parents and carers to see all the children’s hard work.

Furzey Gardens Dinosaur Trail

Furzey Gardens is a beautiful garden set in the New Forest, and run by staff, volunteers, and people with learning difficulties from the charity Minstead Trust. The Trust supports more than 320 people with learning disabilities and autism from Portsmouth to Poole. Its support enables people with learning disabilities to achieve greater independence and make informed choices for happier and healthier lives. The Dinosaur Trail ran across Summer 2025. The Know Wander dinosaur ‘Better Together’ was painted by children who attended Know Wander Art Clubs using lots of different tools, including their hands!

Buddy Bench Project

In August 2025 Know Wander received funding from BCP council to run a project with two local schools to deliver Buddy Benches through creative workshops with the children, aged 4-9 years old. The sessions are taking place across the academic year 25-26 and we are about to start painting the benches themselves!
